Warranty Administrator for Dealers Oct 15, 2010

  • Ford technician panel seeks new members
Ford continues to look for volunteers to be part of the Technician Review Panel (TRP). Interested technicians need to complete the application found on the PTS website and get it to their facing Field Service Engineer(s) and/or Technical Support Operations Manager no later than October 28, 2010.
  • Ford’s ESP WEPA form will change soon
Either late this year, or early next, Ford will be changing the web approval form for ESP claims. This will include a simpler form based on repair type that will determine if prior approval is or is not required. If prior approval is not required the system will inform you prior to submission. You should print this message (stating that prior approval is not required), attach it to the repair order and perform the repair.
  • GMC and Buick to expand loaner vehicle program
Tell me if you have heard this one before. Factory comes out with a great new idea that sounds like a total win-win-win for dealers, customers and the factory. The factory agrees to substantially subsidize the cost of the program and it is a deal too good to pass up. Then in about six to 18 months when the banners are taken down, the factory brass that dreamt up the program have moved on to new posts, and the bills start coming due. Suddenly, a program that has been promised to every customer is not being subsidized quite the way dealers envisioned.
  • Retail-rate warranty reimbursement comes to Washington
Washington State enacted an amendment to its State franchise law in July to allow car dealers to request a "retail rate" on parts and labor used in warranty claims. For a recap, "retail rates" are not the same as "dealer list" programs that several manufacturers offer. While "dealer list" normally offers a mark-up of about 67%, making it substantially better than the typical 40%, it does not come close to a retail rate average of 80-90% found in stores using a moderate pricing matrix.
