Warranty Administrator for Ford Dealers June 1, 2009

  • Catalytic converters cause customer and claim problems
In recent months Ford has been suffering through a rash of problems related to some catalytic converters. When a widespread problem like this one surfaces, Ford will usually restrict replacement parts as it looks to determine the cause of failure and possibly make changes to the design. This causes a shortage to occur, which prevents you from getting the parts you need to get the customer's vehicle back on the road. It seems that every shop right now has at least a few vehicles that have been down for a few weeks awaiting catalytic converter parts.
